COMMUNITY Business
asset management

‘WLCC offers an Asset Management service, be it a Community Asset Transfer via the Local Authority, or purchasing Privately owned land to ensure it is kept within the community for employment creation and health and wellbeing. WLCC will ensure that Assets are kept within Community Ownership and are offering services of need to the local community’

Creating a Community Wealth Building model for the borough of Wigan through transfer of assets for Community Business and Social Enterprise.

As WLCC, we have worked imaginatively with the local authority to look at alternative and innovative ways of providing some of our community based services - combining the ‘soft’ assets community groups bring in terms of knowledge, skills and volunteer time, and the ‘hard’ assets the Council can offer, from buildings and playing fields to bowling greens.

COMMUNITY hubs

Wigan and Leigh Community Cooperative currently has one Community Hub based within the borough. With two more coming soon at Tudor House in Hindley and Bickershaw Village Club in Wigan. Each of our centres has rooms that are available to rent on a short and long terms basis.

Platt Bridge - The community centre in Platt Bridge is where it all began. The centre hosts 3 anchor tenants Embrace Wigan and LeighJack in the box nursery and MissPlaces. We also host community business who have developed through the Empowering Places project: Miss Places, BVCC and Pianos, Pies and Pirouettes.

The Platt Bridge Community Zone is a vivid example of this collaboration. WLCC will build on that experience to give a new lease of life to vital local facilities, using our ability to access funding and resources not available to the Council to enable us to invest and improve the offer to local people.

Are you someone or have you identified someone who might benefit from becoming involved with WLCC or any of our initiatives such as Made in Wigan?

There are various ways that you can get in touch to take things forward.

It may be that you want to make contact to first find out if there really is a ‘fit’.

You may want to speak on the phone, come and visit us on behalf of someone, or maybe you’d like to bring someone along for an initial chat.

Whichever route you prefer we can accommodate.

First things first though, share some brief details and we’ll be back in touch!
