Celebrating Social Enterprise Day in Wigan: Why You Should Attend

Blog Created: November 8, 2024

Social Enterprise Day is right around the corner, and we are delighted to be hosting a day dedicated to celebrating and empowering social enterprises in Wigan and Leigh! Taking place on Thursday, 21st November, at The Atrium in Wigan Town Hall, this event is designed for those passionate about making a positive impact and eager to learn from others working towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.

But what makes this event so important, and why should you attend? Here’s a closer look at what Social Enterprise Day offers and the benefits of joining us:

1. Gain Insight into the Social Enterprise Movement

Social enterprises play a unique role in our economy by prioritising social and environmental goals alongside profits. Social Enterprise Day is a chance to learn more about the principles and values that drive social enterprises to benefit both people and the planet. From our introductory session with insights from David Baxter and Caeryn Collins, to the exploration of our Social Enterprise Place status, the day provides valuable knowledge about our current community landscape, and the potential of social enterprises in our borough.

2. Get Inspired by Local Changemakers

Throughout the day, you’ll hear firsthand stories from impactful social enterprises within our community, including winners of our Pitch and Pie competition and other inspiring leaders. In our Room for Dreaming session, we’ll showcase The Fire Within The Forge Cultural Manifesto and feature a panel discussion with leaders from both the social enterprise and cultural sectors. Their insights can spark new ideas and motivate you to explore innovative ways of making a difference.

3. Connect with Like-Minded Individuals

Social Enterprise Day is an ideal opportunity to meet others who share a commitment to positive change. With time set aside for networking, you’ll have the chance to connect with peers, learn from their experiences, and perhaps even discover collaboration opportunities. Lunch will also provide an informal setting to exchange ideas and build connections with other local social enterprises and stakeholders.

4. Celebrate and Support the Social Enterprise Community

Social Enterprise Day isn’t just about learning—it’s also a celebration of our community’s accomplishments. We’ll recognise local changemakers with a special celebration of Pitch and Pie winners and take time to highlight businesses giving back. By attending, you’ll be supporting the efforts of our community’s social enterprises and helping us raise awareness of the important role they play in fostering social good in Wigan and Leigh.

5. Learn How to Get Involved and Make a Lasting Impact

Whether you’re already part of a social enterprise, interested in starting one, or simply looking to support, Social Enterprise Day will provide guidance on how to get more involved.
